Elementary’s first Honors assemblies of the 2013-2014 school year took place during these last few weeks. These events mark the beginning of a new set of goals and academic highlights for Interamericano’s whole student body.

On October 28, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades had their assembly for the first bimester of this school year. Students whose lowest grade was above 85 in each academic subject, received an Honor Roll certificate, signed their name on the recognition posters and had their pictures taken for the school website. During this event there was a huge crowd, filled with dozens of proud parents and well behaved students. As is custom, the ceremony ceremony started with the entrance of the flags. Students who bring in these civic figures receive this honor by displaying great behavior and super classroom achievement. They are nominated by their classroom teachers.

This event marks a great opportunity for Interamericano students to participate in all of the day’s activities, specially prepared by OPAI, and win some massive prizes in the OPAI (Organización de Padres de Alumnos Colegio Interamericano) raffle. For our second Honors Assembly, Pedro Albín Lazcano, Yousef Hanna Makarian and Dana Song, had the privelege of bringing in the flags, among peers and family members.

Later, Mr. Bellemare talked more in-depth to the kids about MAP testing. He explaned how students in North America, Central America and South America take the MAP test at roughly the same time. The test is a good way for Interamericano to determine the school’s academic level, when compared with other regional institutions. MAP scores will be given out stakeholders as soon as the  school receives them.

Greg Bellemare, our Elementary Principal, always has words of encouragement to the public, constantly asking students to set out goals and achieve them at the best of their abilities.

Mr. Bellemare recommended students set goals and figure out a plan to carry them out. If each part of Elementary carries out their  job, then at the end of the next bimester, the school will see even more people receive awards during similar ceremonies.
