Students at Interamericano celebrated the Independence Day by participating in the Mercadito on Friday, the 12th.
With the objective of promoting good citizenship and love for country, the mothers involved in Organización de Padres Alumnos de Interamericano (OPAI) and Interamericano offered different activities for the kids, which included traditional Guatemalan food, traditional souvenirs, and the entrance of an Independence torch among others. Several parents attended the event and enjoyed seeing the kids in traditional Guatemalan clothes eating tostadas, chuchitos, and elotes locos.

To maintain organization and order, specific grades attended at specific time slots. The four areas of the school participated.
One of the highlights of the day was when senior students Rodrigo Cifuentes and Gustavo Ponce entered the school running with the traditional torch.
Around 25 high school students started the torch run at Obelisco in zone 9, they passed on the torch to 15 middle school students in Cayalá, and then the elementary students received it at the entrance of Interamericano and ran around the school to finally enter the soccer field.
During the elementary assembly, middle school students shared the meaning of the torch, while high school students shared the meaning of the national symbols.
